The title of your post is so telling. Fear! It can be a strong motivator but one that doesn't feel so good all the time. I love that you recognize what you don't want to loose, after putting inall this hard work. Now it's time to shift your thinking, and concentrate on everything you've gained, everything you can celebrate as a result of all your hard work. You can certainly afford to celebrate! I think it helps us continue to move forward. Set a new goal. Identify a new reward. What will it be?

Onward and upward,

I'm actually looking forward to the end of the challenge. Not because I will be done, but because I will be done with this part of my journey. I have already dropped 20 pounds and desperately need to go shopping for work clothes; which is reason enough for celebration, but I have set new goals. The challenge has been my springboard. I have really enjoyed the people I have met, and the classes I have been taking, and I really like the way I eat now. Fish instead of pizza?! Yep!! Any day!! Before the Challenge ends, my next challenge begins. I start training for the Portland Marathon. Never saw that coming!!! A half yeah, full, before I turn 40, but this year, NO WAY. OH YEAH BABY!!! Am I gonna win the Challenge? Probably not, but, I have gained so much in my own life that I have already won.

By the way, orange roughy with dill and lemon pepper is awesome.

More AC/DC. Something with a driving beat helps keep me moving. It seems that most of the music on the Gold's Gym network is more 'pop' oriented which bores me to death.

Some REAL country music would be nice. Ray Price did lots of great music with a 4/4 shuffle beat that is fantastic to workout to as well.

Sometimes I wonder what others are listening to on their mp3 players...

Dear Melissa,

I know how appealing it would be to lose 15-20 lbs of bodyfat in a week, and watching "The Biggest Loser" is great motivation for many people; however, in the long run it is better to lose weight slower. Slow and steady is easier for the body to adjust to your new body mass and it will be much harder for it to revert back to previous set-point for body mass. The quicker you lose it the easier it generally is to put back on. The body has a very set system for keeping everything at homeostasis (normal level). You try and lose weight at such a pace and it will come back when you stop dieting so hard and/or take a break from the gym and exercise.

Advice (just my .02) take what you have learned in the challenge and stick with it. Exercise, proper nutrition, and fitness are lifestyle choices that one has to live with everyday. Stay dedicated, be committed, be persisitant, and never stop remodeling yourself and you will succeed--despite the many pitfalls life may throw at you. If your workouts become boring or you become complacent, switch your workout, change something, set a new series of STG, MTG, LTGs, listen to a new form of music (as Darcy said), watch YouTube videos of your favorite workouts, etc. Something that adds the spark back into your workout...

At any rate, don't think you are failing because you are not losing 10-15 lbs every week. The people on The Biggest Loser have one goal in mind, and one objective in their lives right now. They train! That's it. How easy would it be to lose weight if all you had to do was workout and eat properly. All too easy. No kids to worry about. No family concerns (being around at any rate). You've got a trainer kicking you into gear everyday--motivating, pulling you, driving you to succeed. Working out for several hours a day. Yeah, someone had better lose some weight from all that. Reality proves a different story with obligations all over the place. It is a fine lesson in time management as well as commitment. The determined will succeed...

Mellisa,

I so enjoy reading your blogs. Especially when you find your own solutions to all those 'challenges' we face about eating right and exercising. It's not called a 'challenge' for nothing. It takes work and dedication every day. Bravo to you, and keep up the hard work. My suggestion when the workouts are getting mundane...new music on the i-pod!

This is very true Melissa. Take one moment at a time. It is all about the one workout, the one cookie and the one step!! Once you realize this it makes things much easier. Blair McHaney always says collect workouts like medals, one at a time. Don't look at the entire challenge look at the mini challenges within the challenge!! Your're awesome and keep up the great work!

I am so amazed at how much shoes make the difference in how you feel. I am a big proponent of always taking care of your feet.
One thing that I found interesting too is if you lose weight sometimes you will need a smaller size shoe! Who knew our feet could gain fat too?
Great job Melissa! Enjoying your journey.

I'm glad to hear somebody say it!! Most people do not make themself or their health a priority and sadly if we don't make our own health a priority then what are we teaching our family, our kids, our friends and our co-workers. If we stay healthy, then we will be more apt to push others to be healthy, mentally and physically; thus more positive and able bodied. It is so important to keep progressing and bettering ourselves. Thanks for being an inspiration to all of our readers Melissa. You are a GEM!

I feel exactly the same and I feel so guilty when I know they have been in there in the morning and then we go back...but you know what I just realized.....they never have a problem going in there...they love it...it is me who has the guilt. So I have let go of that and I am much happier as a result:)
